Meet the Teacher

Little Root’s teacher, Sarah Phat, is a mom of two. She grew up in a family of educators and views teaching as her passion. She enjoys cooking, playing the piano and camping with her family. Sarah was inspired to open her own school after spending over sixteen years in the field of public education.

My Story

Sarah obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Early Education and her Teaching Certification from Washington State University in 2007. Sarah has worked with students of every age. She began her career in Education working as a student teacher at Roosevelt Elementary School in Vancouver, Washington. From there, she was hired by the Vancouver School District, where she taught nine years at Roosevelt Elementary and four years at Eisenhower Elementary. She taught Kindergarten through third grade, including a transitional first grade. While working at both schools, she had the opportunity to coach both elementary volleyball and track. Her last two years were spent opening the new Project Based Learning school in downtown Vancouver, VITA Elementary. While teaching, she was also a piano teacher after-school hours. She provided engaging and age-appropriate instruction in fundamental piano techniques, music theory, and basic music notation.

Sarah also had the privilege of serving as a Math Coach, where she worked collaboratively with educators to enhance their instructional practices and strengthen their content knowledge in mathematics. In this role, she provided guidance, resources, and ongoing support to teachers, assisting them in implementing effective instructional strategies and differentiated instruction to meet the diverse needs of our young learners.

All of the above experiences have come together to build Sarah's solid foundation in teaching and learning. She is a teacher who is always learning and growing, changing her approach based upon what she believes her students need. You will find Little Roots to be a warm and inviting environment that promotes learning and fosters creativity.
